Found A Baby Squirrel ? 

If you have found a baby squirrel, please dont just assume that it is abandoned.

Have a look around for mum, LOOK UP.!! Has the baby fallen from a nest? It is very normal for mum to leave her babies at the base of a tree while she moves them one by one to a new nest, so please check first that you are not taking a baby rather than providing rescue.

Keep a safe distance to give mum a chance to retrieve her baby, but keep a good look out for predators.

If mum doesnt show after some time, please contact us & rescue, do not leave the baby to become cat or hawk food.

 

If you have found the baby after dark, you will need to provide rescue....mum will not come after dark.

 

If the baby is cold, then you will need to rescue,  as mum will not take a cold baby.

 

If the baby has signs of injury, rescue immediately.

 

After you are satisfied that the baby needs rescue, please keep the baby warm and contact us immediately !

Please do not attempt to feed the baby any fluids or food, you could end up causing more harm.

The most important thing is to keep the baby warm...ie place a hot water bottle (well wrapped in a cloth so it doesnt burn baby) in a box or animal carrier if you have one. Place the baby in another blanket into the carrier/box onto the wrapped hot water bottle, pull the blanket slightly over baby so that he/she feels secure.

A COLD BABY WILL DIE!

 

NEVER!!...ATTEMPT TO FEED A COLD BABY!!....

 

PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO FEED COWS MILK OR LACTOL (despite reading online that its ok..ITS NOT!!!

 

Please contact us so we can provide the correct care.

 

 

Please do not contact the RSPCA ....the baby will more than likely be put to sleep.

 

If you find a baby that has been caught/attacked by a cat, please do not delay in contacting us.... he/she will need medical treatment and life saving antibiotics..... 

 

Be careful with vets....they are obliged to put grey squirrels to sleep....Contact us first !!
